The Sandra Dunagan Deal Center for Early Language and Literacy (Deal Center) conducted an independent review of the Georgia Department of Education’s (GA DOE) approved universal screeners and dyslexia screening tools.
The analysis provided a relative ranking of the approved screeners that considered validity, reliability and other factors that deem the screeners best suited to improve the quality of early reading instruction in the state of Georgia.
Classworks received a “Strong” ranking, as a valid and reliable resource approved to help teachers identify students who may be at risk for dyslexia and as an essential part of districts’ comprehensive literacy programs.
“With proper utilization of these screeners, schools can accurately and consistently identify students in need of additional support. It is recommended that LEAs consider psychometric strength as delineated herein a critical factor when selecting an early literacy screener (Morgan, Wenke, and Dandy, 2023).”
