Support the Science of Reading with Evidence-Based Intervention

October 14, 2024

Based on brain science and research, The Science of Reading shows how students learn to read and which instructional practices lead to success. Research points to the necessity of including explicit and systematic instruction in reading, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension. This research indicates how Scarborough's Rope captures the complexity of learning to read while all of the components intertwine to make a successful reader.

Choosing a core instructional program that is evidence-based and that adheres to the Science of Reading is the first step in supporting the Science of Reading. It is equally important to pair your core instruction with trusted supplemental and intervention resources that deliver high-quality, evidence-based instruction.

In our most recent white paper, we review how the components of Classworks align with Scarborough's Reading Rope through the Universal Screener, Progress Monitoring Assessments, and Intervention Instruction to support the theoretical models that underpin the Science of Reading.
